Birmingham Concert Band - Join the band!


The Birmingham Concert Band is an acknowledged leader among community bands in the state of Michigan. The band has entertained audiences by performing the best literature for concert bands and featuring guest artists of stature, in addition to providing a creative outlet for area musicians . Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings in the Groves High School band room from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Membership is open to all adults with previous instrumental ensemble experience and all performers who play a concert band instrument are welcome. There is no audition required, but there is a three rehearsal tryout period required before acceptance as a full time BCB member.  All Band members are expected to participate in performances and have their music prepared prior to performances. mj_Concert_Band_110413_230Music Director and Conductor: Mr. Jeffrey Jones

Maestro Jeffrey Jones has been the Music Director and Conductor of the Birmingham Concert Band since 2013.  A native of Harrison Township, Michigan, Jones is an active conductor and music educator throughout the Greater Detroit area.  Jones holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Music degree in conducting from Wayne State University.  He has also completed post bachelor work at Oakland University, which included conducting duties with the Pontiac Oakland Symphony Orchestra.  Maestro Jones has studied conducting with Russell Reed, David Daniels and Douglas Bianchi.

Mr. Jones taught instrumental music for the Lake Orion Community School District for over ten years; where he developed a fifth grade band program and served as Director of Bands at Lake Orion High School.  His concert ensembles received consistent First Division ratings at MSBOA District and State Band Festivals. The LOHS Symphonic Band received straight ‘A’ grades in all categories for the seven years Jones directed the ensemble. The ensemble received accolades by many prominent leaders of music education, including John Williamson and John Whitwell. Many of his students have studied with professionals through the region, including members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. His students have also participated in many exemplary community organizations including the Metropolitan Youth Symphony and Detroit Civic Orchestras.

Mr. Jones also served as the District Department Chairperson for Lake Orion Schools, overseeing all staffing, budgetary and administrative aspects of the department. He was a key person in developing, planning and designing the state of the art music suite at the new Lake Orion High School (1997). His administrative skills lead Jones to an opportunity as a corporate administrator in the hospitality field. After many successful years in business, Jones returns to his lifetime passion of music.  In addition to conducting the Birmingham Concert Band he most recently served as the pit orchestra conductor for the Stagecrafters recent productions of The Sound of Music and the Wizard of Oz the at the Baldwin Theatre in Royal Oak.

When not on the podium or studying scores, Mr. Jones is an avid in-line skater and enjoys the solitude of nature, and great food.
